Something else is that this is one of the first episodes that explicitly shows an Autobot requiring an auxiliary rocket pack in order to achieve flight. The T-shaped communicators that pop out of the characters' wrists will become the new standard going forward, and will be used by almost every major character. Dinobots," for example, that showed Optimus with long-range antennae that retracted from his helmet and a microphone that popped out of one of his cheek guards. Up to this point in the show, various communications devices have popped out of the characters when the script call for it, and most of the time the animators have made it up on the spot.

Powerglide had technically appeared already in "A Prime Problem" in a throwaway scene, but his appearance, along with the appearance of the many other Autobots we're about to be introduced to, goes entirely unexplained.Ī couple of things of note in this introductory scene are the new style of communicators used by Bumblebee and Optimus Prime as the former reports to the latter.

So, our episode starts out with an old favorite, Bumblebee, joined by a new flying Autobot named Powerglide, as they embark on a mission to explore some mysterious energy readings. Glut, essentially the "father" of the Dinobots who had scripted every major episode with their inclusion up to this point. Episodes like "City of Steel" and "The Autobot Run" had already introduced the bulk of the new season two music by this point.) Naturally, since it's a dinosaur story, it was penned by Donald F. (Not much in the way of new music is introduced, though. While there were over a dozen other episodes to air first during the second season (officially kicking off with "Autobot Spike"), in some ways I consider this episode to be the "true" start to the new season, offering a huge influx of new characters and some less obvious tweaks to the existing character designs. "Dinobot Island" parts 1 and 2 comprise episodes #30 and #31 of the original Transformers series, and first aired on September 25th and September 26th, 1985.
